Volunteer Position Descriptions
Timers- 6 per meet- Equipped with a timing system, timers are assigned one lane for every heat. There are two timers for each lane; times are primarily used for coaching purposes, but can be used for official purposes in the main heats.
Order of Place Judge - Each team provides one. Place judge stands at the finish line and determine 1st -6th place of the main heats by judging who touches the wall first.
Clerk of course - Assist in lining up the swimmers for each event, heat and lanes, and get them to the starting blocks in the correct order and on time. Required # per meet: 2 from NHC at Home & Away meets.
Kid Pusher- 16 per meet - Assume responsibility for keeping track - as best as they reasonably can - of the swimmers in a certain age group while the kids aren't swimming, checking in each main heat swimmer and getting them to the clerk of course on time. This position is obviously more important for the younger swimmers. The older, more experienced swimmers usually take care of themselves and only require someone to distribute the heat assignments. Required # per meet: minimum 2 per age group/sex up to 9-10. 1 per for 11/12 boys & 11/12 girls, 1 total for 13/14 and 15& U. 2 or more for age groups with more than 10 swimmers for a given meet.
Ribbon Recorder - Sits with scorers at table and completes ribbons with names and times and distributes to each team. The recorder will work in conjunction with workers from the other team. Required # per meet: 2 at both Home and Away meets.
Ribbon Distributor - Needed at each home meet to pass out participant ribbons and heat winners at the finish of non-main heats to the younger swimmers. Required # per meet: 2 total, can be an adult and an older child above 9-10 age group.
Hospitality - Deliver refreshments, usually lemonade or water, at the home meets to the swim meet workers. Required # per meet: 2 @ Home Meets
Team Spirit/Tattoosday- Arrange supplies for posters to be at practices to develop team spirit and team building. They also work with the coach to plan outside social activities like “Tattoo-sday,” Ice Cream Social, Banquet, etc. Required per meet day: 2 volunteers to support Tattoosday lead.
Meet Administrator– Set up and Manage timing system for duration of swim meet. Train prior to season start and run system during Blue/White meet to ensure all is working properly.
Volunteer Coordinator- assumes responsibility of make sure all volunteer positions are filled prior to each meet.
